TPMS

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems are fitted to cars to monitor the air pressure within the tyres and to warn the driver if they drop below the recommended levels. If the pressure drops more than 20% below the manufacturers recommended pressure then the system alerts the driver by and visual and/or audible warning inside the car.

Benefits of TPMS

The primary function of TPMS is safety. Up to 75% of tyre related accidents are caused by under-inflation. Tyres are naturally porous and leak air slowly. All motorists are advised to check their tyre pressures at regular intervals because of this. The reality is that most motorists do not check their tyre often enough and so TPMS helps to keep them safe.

If your TPMS light is illuminated, please check your tyre pressures

Replacing Your Tyres

With the advent of TPMS being fitted as standard to all vehicles there are a couple of things you need to be aware of as a vehicle owner.

When a tyre is replaced, Ford Motor Company require the valve stem (the rubber bit that you can see) to be replaced at the same time. However, because of the more technical/fragile nature of TPMS, these valve stems are more expensive meaning that we have to pass the cost on.

We will always quote prices for the correct repair, this means we include the valve stem pricing (£10 per tyre). This means that if you are comparing our prices to other providers you need to make sure that they are quoting you for the valves to be replaced.

It is important to note that not all third party tyre fitters replace the valve stems meaning that it is highly likely that the TPMS warning light will come on or an air leak will develop.
